Bedford Democratic Committee Endorses George Latimer for County Executive
On April 20, the Bedford Democratic Committee unanimously endorsed George Latimer as Candidate for Westchester County Executive in the November 2017 elections. Latimer’s public record is extensive: City Councilman, County Legislator, the first Democratic Chairman of the County Board of Legislators, Chair of the County Democratic Committee, State Assemblyman, and currently, State Senator of the 37th Senate District.Latimer has engaged in a wide range of public policy efforts that reflect Bedford values and concerns: environmental protection, social justice, transportation, affordable housing, controlling regressive taxation and ethics reform. Specifically, the BDC has witnessed Latimer’s consistent support for Bedford, advocating for NYSERDA’s $250,000 grant for LED street lighting; the $420,000 Community Development Block Grant for the Antioch affordable housing project; and the transfer of the Department of Corrections wastewater treatment plant to Bedford’s newly created sewer district for $1. Latimer has pressed for funding for the re-paving of I-684, and he has facilitated collaborations between the Town and a range of state agencies. Chris Burdick remarked "As Bedford Supervisor, I have come to rely on George in getting things done for Bedford benefitting the entire community regardless of party affiliation."
George Latimer is State Senator for nearly one-third of the County, yet he has stayed in touch with the issues that directly affect the Town of Bedford. His ongoing relationship to the Town has earned Latimer the respect, admiration and trust that led to his unanimous endorsement at the BDC’s April meeting. "We believe that George Latimer will return Westchester government to Westchester’s progressive values" said MaryAnn Carr, Chair of the BDC. "He will be good for the County and good for Bedford."
